Jayanti of Birsa Munda at Grant Medical College, Mumbai, 15 November 2025

Birsa Munda Birsa Munda (1875–1900) was a legendary tribal freedom fighter, folk hero, and spiritual leader from the Munda community of Jharkhand. He is celebrated for leading the Ulgulan (Great Tumult) – a tribal uprising against British colonial rule and exploitative zamindari systems. Key Points About Birsa Munda • Born: 15 November 1875, Ulihatu (now in Jharkhand) • Community: Munda (Adivasi/Tribal) • Fought Against: • British colonial administration • Forced labour (“Begar”) • Exploitative landlords • Missionary interference in tribal culture • Movement: • Founded the Birsait faith which promoted monotheism, social reform, and unity within tribes. • Led the Munda Rebellion (1899–1900) aiming to restore tribal land rights (Khuntkatti system). • Death: 9 June 1900, at age 25, in British custody at Ranchi Jail. • Legacy: • Known as “Dharti Aba” (Father of the Earth) among Adivasis. • His birth anniversary, 15 November, is celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in India. • Numerous institutions, airports, and universities are named after him (e.g., Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi).

लोकशाही सेनानी डॉ. जी. जी. परिख यांचे जे. जे. हॉस्पिटल येथे देहदान

लोकशाही सेनानी म्हणून ओळख असलेले डॉ. जी. जी. परिख यांचे दि. ०२-१०-२०२५ रोजी निधन झाले. वयाच्या १०१ व्या वर्षी त्यांनी आपले वैद्यकीय शिक्षण पूर्ण केले होते व आयुष्यभर स्वतःला सामाजिक कार्यामध्ये झोकून दिले होते. निधनानंतर त्यांनी आपले शरीर विज्ञान शिक्षणासाठी जे. जे. हॉस्पिटल येथे देहदान केले असून, त्यांच्या कुटुंबीयांनीही या निर्णयास सहमती दर्शवली. जे. जे. गट रूग्णालय प्रशासनाकडून निधनानंतर देहदान या महत्त्वाच्या कार्यासाठी त्यांना मानवंदना देण्यात आली. तसेच डॉ. जी. जी. परिख यांचे निकटवर्तीय तसेच जे. जे. हॉस्पिटलचे अधिष्ठाता डॉ. अतुल कामत, उपअधिष्ठाता डॉ. नितीन गोई, वैद्यकीय अधीक्षक डॉ. संतोष सुर्यवंशी, शरीररचना विभाग प्रमुख डॉ. भावनी तडको, वैद्यकीय अधिकारी डॉ. जसवंत ढकले, डॉ. दिनेश गजरे, वरिष्ठ निवासी डॉक्टर व कर्मचारी उपस्थित होते. निधनानंतर देहदान हे वैद्यकीय शिक्षण विभागासाठी फार महत्त्वाचे असून, या माध्यमातून विद्यार्थ्यांना मानवी शरीरशास्त्र शिकण्याचा मौल्यवान अनुभव मिळतो. लोकांनी देहदान करून वैज्ञानिक शिक्षणाला हातभार लावावा असे आवाहन जे. जे. रुग्णालयाचे अधिष्ठाता डॉ. अतुल कामत यांनी केले तसेच डॉ. जी. जी. परिख यांच्या निकटवर्तीयांचे आभार मानले.
